As you can see from our video we first demonstrate our fully functional prototype with an uncertified 2 wheel hoverboard (the most common cause of lithium fires at the moment) however our bag can accommodate up to 10″ wheel hoverboards and anything smaller such as laptops, rc lipo batteries and power-tools.

We demonstrate first with a smoke pellet, this shows how effective the bag and filter are as the pellet we used produces 25 cubic meters of smoke.

The final demonstration is with a real hoverboard, which we deliberately set off by wedging a soldering iron into the battery.  After 10 minutes the hoverboard exploded and as can be seen the bag reduced the smoke dramatically, the explosion was safely contained within the bag and the fire put out with the automatic fire extinguished in under a minute.  This product is by far the safest way to charge a hoverboard or lithium battery powered device in your home.

Where we are now?

We have filed our patents, we have a working prototype, we have sourced all our components which we be able to easily assemble in the UK and have distributed within under two months of funding.

Lithium fires are becoming an enormous problem, and on the increase; with news headlines every week all over the world reporting on often devastating fires in peoples homes caused by lithium battery fires!

This is a serious issue which is only getting worse.  In the past few years there has been an exponential increase in the use of Lithium batteries (Lithium Polymer or Li­Po and Lithium Ion or Li­-Ion), they are advantageous due to their compactness, high performance and energy density.  They are used in laptops, MP3 players, e cigarettes, mobile phones, power tools, remote control vehicles such as drones and cars, hybrid electric bikes and now in massive numbers, hoverboards or Self Balancing Scooters and more.

There have been various bags which try to address the issue which contain the fire to an extent; such as Li-Po charging bags, but nothing that addresses the problem completely.

Lithium battery fires are extremely fierce and will often burn through fire resistant bags and always give off toxic smoke and fumes.

The Fire-Protect Bag addresses this problem by using a fire resistant composite material, Velcro fastening for easy and secure fastening, an activated carbon filter to remove the toxic smoke and releases pressure in the event of a fire and an automatic fire extinguisher to effectively put the fire out!

Our Product

We have gone to great lengths to design and develop this product, including filing for patents to legally protect the Fire-Protect Bag and carrying out numerous tests to ensure reliability.

Risks and challenges

The risks and challenges to this project would be people attempting to steal our idea, this will be overcome with the patents we have filed.

There is a lot of concern about hoverboards and our bag is likely to get a lot of attention, if only 0.1% of hoverboard owners decided to buy this bag there would be a need for more than 100,000 bags.

The manufacturers we are working with are capable of producing over 1000 units a day and we are also going to make sure we moderate the numbers of orders and payments received in-order to make sure there is not a backlog of orders.
